The Department of Cardiology was one of the first departments established upon the opening of Peking University International Hospital. Since 2017, under the leadership of domestic cardiovascular expert Dr. Liu Xiaohui, the department has undergone comprehensive and rapid development. Its talent pipeline has steadily matured, and its academic standards have rapidly advanced, now becoming a key focus area of the hospital and an integral part of the Heart Center.
Currently, the Department of Cardiology has 40 beds, including 33 in the general ward and 7 in the cardiac intensive care unit. It routinely conducts complex coronary interventions, emergency interventions for acute myocardial infarction, permanent pacemaker implantation, implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation, cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), radiofrequency ablation for various types of arrhythmias, and interventional treatments for structural heart disease.
More than 1,500 coronary interventions and over 100 electrophysiological procedures are performed annually, with unique techniques such as combined cerebro-cardiac surgery, His bundle-left bundle branch pacing (HBP-LBBP), and atrial fibrillation ablation with left atrial appendage occlusion.
