Peking University International Hospital (PKUIH) proudly announces the official inauguration of its Emergency Trauma Center—a transformative step forward in rapid, integrated care for patients with severe and multiple injuries. The launch of this center further boosts the hospital’s capabilities in treating complex trauma cases and underscores its unwavering commitment to over a million people it serves across northern Beijing.

The center was formally unveiled at a special ceremony attended by experts from Peking University Third Hospital, Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, Changping District Hospital, Changping District Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, and other leading institutions. Dr. Wang Xin, Director of the Medical Department at PKUIH, presented the official plaque and highlighted the center’s profound impact.
"Creating the Emergency Trauma Center directly answers the healthcare needs of our community and represents a crucial investment in our academic strengths," Dr. Wang said. By concentrating multidisciplinary expertise and streamlining care pathways, we are building a high-level regional trauma system that seamlessly links pre-hospital response, the emergency room, surgery, intensive care, inpatient wards, and rehabilitation. Every element is designed around the critical first hour after injury—the so-called “golden hour” —when fast, coordinated action can dramatically improve survival. Peking University International Hospital’s Emergency Trauma Center will raise trauma care standards in northern Beijing and help shape a stronger regional rescue network.
Trauma remains a relentless global challenge. The World Health Organization identifies injuries as the third leading cause of death worldwide and the number-one killer of people under 40. An efficient, well-orchestrated trauma system is decisive in increasing survival rates, lowering complications, and restoring quality of life after life-altering injuries.
Emergency Trauma Center: Purpose-Built Hub for Every Kind of Injury

It includes dedicated consultation rooms, resuscitation rooms, a trauma resuscitation unit, operating theatres, an observation ward, a comprehensive emergency inpatient ward, and an emergency ICU.
The medical team unites trauma specialists from across the hospital’s various disciplines. Fully operational, the center is equipped to manage the full spectrum of traumatic injuries, including:
