Department Introduction

The Department of Anesthesiology integrates clinical anesthesia (operating room anesthesia, day surgery anesthesia), emergency and critical care resuscitation, sedation and analgesia outside the operating room, emergency resuscitation, comfort care, and pain management. Under the leadership of Director Yao Lan, the department has become a modern clinical specialty distinguished by anesthesia for critically ill patients and comfort medical services, with innovative equipment, technology, and management concepts.

While ensuring routine surgical anesthesia, the department also provides an anesthesia evaluation clinic and ten comfort care sites outside the operating room, serving as a key support hub for safe and efficient hospital operations. Cutting-edge technologies include visualization devices, difficult airway management tools, transesophageal echocardiography, hemodynamic monitoring, and cerebral function monitoring, all representing top international and domestic standards.

These resources ensure safe and effective anesthesia for all surgical procedures and provide robust support for the advancement of comfort medicine. The Surgical Center consists of the central operating room, interventional operating room, and day surgery operating room, totaling 46 operating theaters—including 33 integrated suites, two 3.0T MRI shared operating rooms, one intraoperative radiotherapy suite, and two hybrid operating rooms. Modern intraoperative MRI, navigation, and DSA hybrid systems ensure safe and effective treatment of complex cases. The operating rooms are managed with advanced digital systems, allowing high-definition recording and broadcasting for real-time teaching and precise surgical monitoring.

To support high-level, sophisticated surgeries and enhance patient care, continual professional development of medical, nursing, and technical staff is emphasized. Peking University International Hospital has imported state-of-the-art medical devices and instruments from both domestic and international sources. The operating room nursing team is professionally trained, highly skilled, and dedicated to patient-centered care, consistently delivering high-quality, safe, and compassionate medical services.
