The Department of Laboratory Medicine at Peking University International Hospital was established in December 2014 and is located on the second floor of the outpatient building and the first floor of the infectious disease building. Covering an area of over 3,400 square meters, the department undertakes all laboratory testing for outpatients, emergency, inpatient departments, and the physical examination center, providing precise and scientific laboratory data to support the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of clinical diseases.
The department has built a well-structured team, currently composed of 40 staff members, including 1 professor/chief physician, 2 associate chief physicians/associate chief technicians, and 22 personnel with intermediate professional titles. Among them, 10 hold a master's or doctoral degree.
The Department of Laboratory Medicine comprises five professional groups: Clinical Basic Testing and Cytology, Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Microbiology, and Clinical Molecular Biology.
To meet the needs of clinicians in disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, the department has developed a comprehensive range of nearly 500 clinical laboratory tests. All tests are subjected to standardized internal quality control procedures, and the department participates annually in external quality assessment programs organized by the National Health Commission Clinical Laboratory Center and the Beijing Clinical Laboratory Center. It is recognized as a mutually acknowledged results unit in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and serves as a core medical alliance laboratory for Haidian and Changping Districts in Beijing.
The laboratory is equipped with dozens of instruments, essentially meeting the clinical needs of a large, comprehensive hospital. In recent years, the department has received three hospital youth researcher startup grants and published over 20 papers in core journals, including seven SCI-indexed articles.
