Rheumatology and Immunology

The Department of Rheumatology and Immunology at Peking University International Hospital was founded by Professor Li Zhanguo and his team from Peking University People's Hospital. The department has received strong support from a number of professors in the field, including Professors Zhang Xuewu, Sun Ying, Liu Xiangyuan, Wang Guochun, and Huang Huogao. The department is currently led by Dr. Li Shengguang, a senior specialist from the PLA General Hospital. The team consists mainly of professionals who graduated from Peking University Health Science Center and Peking Union Medical College, all of whom have undergone rigorous training and clinical practice, and possess solid theoretical knowledge and rich clinical experience.

The department has 21 beds and handles around 30,000 outpatient visits annually, with approximately 800 inpatient discharges. Since its establishment, the department has consistently adhered to and implemented a “patient-centered” service philosophy and a clinically-oriented research approach. Through weekly “Difficult Case Conferences” and the complementary “One Exhibition and Two Conferences”—both in the " Complex Case Symposium“ and the ”Century-Spanning Complex Case Exhibition"—to foster diverse academic exchanges.

These initiatives have not only broadened perspectives and elevated clinical expertise but also cultivated a distinctive departmental culture, significantly enhancing the department's reputation within the medical community. Through the collective efforts of all medical staff, the department has repeatedly received honors including the hospital's Outstanding Team Award, Advanced Collective for Excellent Service, and Medical Excellence Award.
